Sustainable Resources Management
Confidential Client

This global food and beverage company’s goal was to reduce any vulnerability in its supply channels. To achieve that, Woodard & Curran assembled a multidisciplinary team of engineers, hydrogeologists, risk assessors, trainers, and information technology specialists to develop a resource/supply chain sustainability program. This innovative project was developed from concept to its current state-of-the-art management and training system. Now being piloted in three countries, the system monitors, manages, and uploads critical data, performing automated audit functions at hundreds of production locations worldwide. It also supports the deployment of standardized self-training modules over the web.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Contract Operations
Nestle USA
Efficient, cost-effective operations has been the theme since Woodard & Curran assumed contract operations of Nestle USA’s 1-MGD industrial pretreatment facility, which serves Nestle’s frozen food processing plant in Springville, Utah. Immediately addressing this dissolved air flotation facility’s issues with bulk storage equipment saved nearly $20,000. Additional upgrades included installation of a computerized maintenance system, a new sludge pump, insulating city water lines, sludge fill piping, an inventory management system, an electric hoist for removal of influent pumps, an influent modulating valve, and restoration of floor drains. By immediately repairing equipment, restoring chemical feed systems, and providing general housekeeping, labor hours in these areas were greatly reduced, allowing staff to complete other maintenance and data collection tasks. Woodard & Curran rounded out these improvements with a training program that raised skill levels and increased plant efficiency.

Compliance Services
Confidential Milk Processing Plant
Woodard & Curran has provided process safety management, risk management planning, stormwater management, wastewater engineering, and integrated contingency planning services for this national dairy products processor. The focus of this work is the improvement of the ten facilities’ Process Safety Management and Risk Management Planning Programs for their ammonia refrigeration systems.  Woodard & Curran has developed PSM/RMP Policy and Procedures Manuals, provided process safety information, written operating procedures, performed PSM/RMP Compliance Audits, and assisted this client with their OSHA relationship at these ten facilities in six states with ammonia inventories ranging from 6,000 to 60,000 pounds.

Fast-Track Design/Build Industrial Wastewater Engineering
Confidential Food Industry Client
The onsite wastewater treatment facility of a major frozen food processor was experiencing upsets resulting in discharge permit exceedances. Woodard & Curran resolved these problems, beginning with a feasibility study and pilot-scale testing of a dissolved air floatation treatment system. This approach successfully lowered Total Suspended Solids and Biological Oxygen Demand levels, leading to a fast-track, design-build approach for the design of a full-scale, 200,000-GPD DAF system. Woodard & Curran provided structural, mechanical, process, and electrical engineering services, as well as instrumentation and controls and design and startup assistance and training. Our engineers also conducted a waste minimization and pollution prevention program for the new facility that lowered oil and grease discharges and sludge disposal costs.  Woodard & Curran was also retained to contract operate this wastewater treatment facility and provides on-going Process Safety Management consulting and regulatory compliance services in the wastewater, air, hazardous materials, and stormwater arenas.
